History

During her formative years in London in the early 1960’s, Anne became passionate about the decorative arts with a focus in antique jewellery and costume. She started her now celebrated collection of antique costume consisting of over 1000 items of female costume and accessories, dating from 1790 to1940. The collection was exhibited in Sydney for the National Trust in 1972 and at the Adelaide Festival in 1974, and was subsequently acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.

In 2003 Anne was appointed a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia A.M. for her services to the Performing Arts and to the Decorative Arts, particularly Antiques, as an author and consultant.

Anne assisted the Sydney University Nicholson Museum’s 2010 Exhibition ‘Beauty and Betrayal – Ancient and Neo-Classical Jewellery’ by lending a number of items, including an ancient cornelian intaglio, identified as one of the lost Marlborough Gems.

More recently Anne was a consultant and major lender to the important 2014/15 Jewellery Exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, ‘A Fine Possession – Jewellery and Identity’

Opals: Australia’s ‘Rainbow’ Gems

I recently acquired a striking opal cameo set in silver as a ring. Depicting Nike, the goddess of Victory in Greek mythology, it has been attributed to the celebrated German gem carver Wilhelm Schmidt (1845-1938) and dated circa 1880.
